'STOP SNITCHING' website won't help solve young girl's murder
A website urging witnesses with information about the shooting of a five-year-old girl caught in apparent gang crossfire not to 'snitch', has been condemned by police.
The site has been set up to tell people not to come forward about the attack on Thusha Kamaleswaran almost two weeks ago.
The website shows a video with youths rapping against speaking out.
Leaflets have also been posted through doors close to the crime scene.
Thusha became Britain's youngest gun crime victim when a gunman casually sprayed Stockwell Food & Wine in south London on March 29.
Shop assistant, Roshan Selvakumar, 35, was also hit in the face and the bullets narrowly missed Thusha's sister, brother and mother.
Scotland Yard detectives from Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime, have expressed disappointment at how the community is being encouraged not to help their investigation.
Up to 50 gangs are known to operate in the area.
A Met Police spokesman said: 'Trident receives an incredible amount of vital community support across London. Engaging with us is not snitching but about protecting your community.
'The word "snitch" puts witnesses in a category where they have done something wrong, this is not the case.'
Crimestoppers, with the Association of Convenience Stores, has offered a £50,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the gunmen.
Last week, detectives took to the streets near the shooting scene - handing out leaflets and speaking to people in a bid to find any witnesses.
Two men have already been charged with attempted murder
Kazeem Kolawoli, 18, from Kennington, and Anthony McCalla, 19, from Streatham, have both been remanded in custody
Thusha and Mr Selvakumar were caught in the crossfire when two black youths being chased by three others on bicycles sought refuge in the shop.
As the pair hid inside, one youth stopped at the door and opened fire indiscriminately.
Seconds later the gunman, armed with a silver handgun, and two other youths fled on bicycles.
One of the two intended victims has come out of hiding to help the police inquiry
